The Politics of Signage
If you’ve been driving around Richmond Hill, GA lately, you’ll notice there are quite a few political signs going up.
There are some general primaries coming up in July, and school board members, county commissioners and the like are vying for votes.
Here are a few tips on signage to make sure you’re getting the word out about your favorite candidate:
- Choose colors that command attention: if you’re using the standard white sign with simple black or red letters, you might blend into the background of the myriad of signs that get stuck around town for one reason or another. However, choose colors that jump or pop off of their background.
- Keep your message simple: When drivers pass your sign, they really don’t want to read a lot of text. They probably have a total of three or four seconds before they’ll focus on something else. Keep your message simple.
- A web address: people are always looking for more places to go on the web, and if you’re hoping to command attention and want to get your message out, maybe you should consider a website to accompany your signs. Page Printing is in the website business, too, and could make a one-or-two page website that will let you state your plans if elected. It’s a good way to communicate with your constituents, and to get interest built in your campaign.
- Stay consistent: If you’re using yellow signs with black letters, don’t change your stripes midstream. People will begin to recognize your signs around town, and if you change colors on them, they might mistake the sign for an opponents, or wonder if maybe something has changed in the campaign. Keep your brand consistent and your message consistent as well.
These are just a few simple things you can do when creating a sign campaign.
